You looked at me
Like a child looks
At a beautiful butterfly
Resting upon a sunlit petal
With your lips stretched into
The brightest smile
I had ever seen
And your eyes twinkling
Like luminous stars
With boundless joy and gaiety
And for the first time
I nudged myself to believe
Without much difficulty
Not for a fleeting moment
But for countless days
After it
That I was more than
A pesky flea
Used to being brushed away
By so many
