[I realize that killing Ziyal was a very pivotal moment for the character of Damar and the story arc of Deep Space Nine, but I wish the writers had picked another character to kill off Ziyal. Damar is my favorite character in Star Trek for so many reasons. His story arc and character development was amazing and I’d love to discuss all the wonderful things I saw in him with other fans, but I’ve found that more often than not the fans just remember him as “the guy who killed Dukat’s daughter.”]

The same people absolutely loves Garak, even after all the shitty things he did. Those who sees him for only the guy who killed Ziyal is watching DS9 in way too much black and white. There’s so many different shades of grey in all the characters, no one saw the guy behind the guy for what he was. He had been brainwashed by propaganda for almost all of his life, suddenly he sees this girl who is openly trying to ruin it and he doesn’t even think about the consequences he just acts. I am not saying murdering someone is ok, but plenty of us would have done the same if we were in a war. We wouldn’t probably even think about it until the guilt started to emerge. They somehow managed to make the Cardassians the most human of them all.
