Something I’ve been thinking about doing for awhile is creating a Cardassian ‘cookbook’ - a collection of recipes that reflect my headcanons on Cardassian cultural/regional cuisine. This would require a lot of experimentation on my point. The main problem is that imagine they have a protein heavy diet, particularly with lots of fish and I am a vegetarian who is allergic to seafood!
Quite the challenge I’ve set for myself. Let’s see if I do it.
I love cooking and coming up with new recipes so I’m totally down to assist. Because of the parallels I see with Cardassian and Japanese culture (possibly influenced by my own interests too) I sort of headcanon food similarities there or Japanese foods I think Cardassians would enjoy like umeboshi or possibly natto (though I respectfully bow out of any natto tasting XD).
I tend to think of semhal stew like a hot pot

I actually quite agree about the hot pot. I think the Cardassians in general eat a lot of stews and soups, particularly incorporating fish and seafood. Of course, sem’hal stew had zabu meat in it, which from my understanding is more like cow, so I’m sure they eat land mammals and fowl too.
The neat thing about zabu is the meat is blue, furthering my headcanon that Cardassians (and their animals relatives) have blueish purple blood and maybe blue muscles as well!
AAAACK I love this. I have a giant RP, about half the characters are Cardassians, one of the characters is a chef. Cardassian food as a Plot Point is a thing. A LOT
The main recipe I’d want to contribute:
A berry something where at this point, the berries can only be replicated because they environmentally messed up and made the berry extinct. They’ll replicate a whole basket of the berries and then make everything else by hand.
