Vorta Language/Culture Headcanon:

(I am not expert on language and I am certain that is shows. This was just a thought that I had).

The Vorta do not and, in many cases, cannot make the sounds that they would have, during the Pre-Dominion era. The ability was somewhat lost, gradually, with the changes made by the Founders. A Vorta may purr, or sometimes squeak, or brux, but he does not have the same vocal range as his ancestors. As fragments of the original Vorta language faded away, in it’s place came the new dialect of Dominionese, ‘Vortawa’. Within the rules of this fresh language, words were created to replace  the noises that could no longer be replicated. Many of these words cannot be translated directly into another language, as they usually have rather copious, or obscure meanings behind them. Such words are translated as something of a paragraph. Those with more direct meanings are usually translated as onomatopoeia, as that is really what they are. Usually, such translations can be heard in the presence of two, or more Vorta partaking in physical affection, such as hugging, hand contact, or a meeting of cheeks, or noses.

Two Vorta holding each other, might continuously drawl something like; “Deep Flutter.” at each other, an imitation of the bubbling noises that would sound in the chests and throats of ancient Vorta in an embrace.

When Vorta stroke each other’s hands they buzz at one another, in a way that resembles an old, friendly sound.

Vorta partaking in an Eskimo kiss, would mutually speak a word that would translate into standard as; “Boof.” A word that indicates two noses pressing together.

Of course, while all of these words sound beautifully alien to many other humanoids, when untranslated, once translated they sound rather comical.
