So you kids on my Tumblr lawn know what it basically means ‘let them eat cake’ comes to us from the French revolution. Supposedly when Marie Antoinette was told the general populace were out of regular bread, because of a food shortage, she asked why don’t they eat the fancy bread the rich people ate?
So ‘let them eat cake’ is used to show how completely out of touch the rich who never have to worry about food, paying bills, or anything are with the average working person who has to live paycheck to paycheck, especially when they aren’t getting paid. They can’t pay their bills? Go get a loan.
Which brings up the question, do they still make guillotines? And fuck yeah it probably hurt.
So, take a picture of or make a list of the contents of the food boxes federal workers had to get, the kind really poor people have to depend on all the time, and challenge your senators and congress members to live off of it.
But make them buy the food themselves, they can afford it, because there are hungry people who can’t.
If you want to do the food box challenge yourself please donate an equal amount of money, or more, to a food bank. Even if their food is donated they still have electric bills for their storage and gas for their delivery trucks. Or volunteer if you have time.
