interesting and valid ways star trek makes darkside/mirrorverse versions of their characters:
- using the psychological dissonance of seeing our favorite characters do bad things to make the point
- when doctors are corrupt and no longer care about “do no harm”
- similar to the above- when characters basic character arcs or code of ethics are shown to be corrupted (seven is still very borg and tuvok is shown smiling ruthlessly in 4x23 of voy, the inversion of bareils faith into mirror!bareils abuse of kiras trust and willingness to share her faith, stuff like that)
- spocks goatee
- overall making it clear that the environment someone exists in intrinsically impacts how they act, the flip side of “its easy to be a saint in paradise”
- aka its easy to be a demon in hell
bad ways that star trek makes darkside/mirrorverse versions of their characters:
- rampant queercoding (giving women shorter hair, the explicit onscreen f/f sexual advances made to show how “bad” they are, emperor georgiou is explicitly pansexual, etc)
- rampant racism (chakotays tattoo was made three times larger for his bad counterpart which is pretty fucked up)
- any and all midriff baring outfits
- in general sex is used as something that mirrorverse characters do because they are just Terrible People
