Life Update
Things have been pretty hectic and stressful here.
My contract at the zoo ran out and yesterday was my last day. I’ve been there in various capacities for three years and I really am so proud to have been part of such an amazing team. It was hard to say goodbye to the animals, and though I didn’t get the permanent position back in March, I’m hopeful that another opportunity may come up before too long.
In the meantime, I’ve applied to several zoos across the country and have already heard back from a really great sounding zoo/sanctuary that focuses on North American wildlife.
I’ve been offered a hand tailored internship at a beautiful zoo in California, and while I do think that with my experience I am well beyond doing an internship, I am excited about the chance to work in an incredible region of the country with new people and species I don’t yet have experience with. Though it’s unpaid and I will probably have to go into a bit of debt to do it, I’m certain that these people appreciate my skill-set and will teach me many new things - they basically molded their existing, less involved internship to accommodate my skills and knowledge, and even changed the hours and dates to help me save money. I’m scared about the financial aspect, but just so jazzed to have this new adventure and start a new chapter. I’m sure it will also help me pump up my resume and find a permanent position at a reputable facility.
I’m also use this break (of sorts) to invest more time in my business. As you saw in previous updates, in addition to zookeeping, I’m also working as a consultant for Pure Romance. As I said before, it’s going to be such a pleasure to share this journey with all of you. Sexual wellness is all about education and empowerment, and I hope you guys will let me help you on your own journeys in that regard. I’m always available to answer questions and make recommendations, no judgement and discretion is guaranteed.
If for any reason, you DO want to reach out to me regarding my Pure Romance business, but don’t want your inquiries connected to your Tumblr handle, you can also contact me by email (see business card below) and I’ll never know who you are on social media.
I’m also planning on keeping art commissions open, though I don’t think I will have time produce any prior to my drive to California. I’m hoping to head out around June 7th-10th. If any of you guys live near I-40 and want to let me and Henry crash on your couch overnight so I don’t have to pay for a hotel room, please private message me. As much as I’m looking forward to this internship, I really have to save money where I can, as well as earn where I can.
For the first time ever, I’m going to say that donations are welcome. My last paycheck will be next Friday and that is a very terrifying thought. If you’d like to help, private message me for details.
Anyway, trying to focus on staying positive and learning from these new experiences! I’ll keep you updated as much as I can, my friends. Feel free to share this post around.
LLAP (and much love too!)
