But wasn’t there some whole episode with dukat and kira about how cardassian burial rituals are like incredibly strict and it’s like a cardinal sin for anyone other than a cardassian to see the corpse of the deceased?
that in mind what the hell happened to tains body in the internment camp? like, extenuating circumstances obviously but it just like, disappears? And considering how very Cardassian Garak is and all the history with tain we get absolutely no closure there at all. why are show writers like this
I think this was more of a “it’s better to stay alive and get revenge” thing. Like there’s only so much that Garak can do in this situation, and the body was probably removed regardless of argument. Hell the jem’hadar might have simply vaporized it on sight. Which would give him even more incentive for revenge (not that he didn’t have enough to begin with).
And then him letting Julian see Tain’s last moments…could really be a layered context: on the one hand, he’s showing Julian one of his secrets. But on the other hand, he could also be including Julian as part of his people, kind of like how, if you’re “family” then you don’t count as an “outsider.”
Everyone else, well that’s extenuating circumstances and survival is more important than tradition and Garak is smart enough to understand that.
