A Canadian went nuts after me saying root beer tastes like Listerine on fb. I tried explaining to her that we don’t really have the herbs used in root beer outside of North America and when it does it’s in oral hygine products. Several google searches reveals that most non North American describes it as tasting like soap,toothpaste or mouthwash.
In all honesty - and I’m saying this as an American - rootbeer can be pretty gross. Not mouthwash gross, but just so overly sweet that it’s cloying. Every once in awhile, I will enjoy a few sips if it’s the right company, but most of the time rootbeer is a big ol’ NO for me. Your Canadian friend needs to relax; that expression about hills comes to mind…
