So…
Tumblr is recommending a pro-anorexia blog for me to follow and, like, seriously fuck off with that shit. I had an eating disorder for YEARS and have struggled with body image and developing a healthy relationship with food. It’s something I’ve never shrugged off entirely - and it has taken me a lot of time and work to get to a place where I really love and accept my body the way it is.
And while I have sympathy for others who suffer from eating disorders, especially as a result of emotional abuse combined with the cultural inundation of messages about how we should hate ourselves (all the better to both keep us silent and to sell us products!)… If you’re promoting your disorder as some kind of lifestyle and/or aesthetic choice and encouraging others to do the same, if you’re promoting your disorder as some kind of community and ignoring recovery and not discussing the serious, even deadly, repercussions, then (and I say this with all love and respect), please do fuck right off.
You want to trivialize eating disorders and make it into some cute thing where you all compare notes on fasting and post pastel pictures of skeletal girls in too big jeans and compare the size of your thighs? Consider therapy. You’re going to die. One of your friends is going to die. A poor stranger who couldn’t or didn’t get help is going to die. It’s not a fucking game, it’s not a fucking look. STOP NOW.
