A Harmonia Conformis ladybird hunting some pesky aphids off a rose bush in Monash, Canberra, Australia. (Also seen on my Instagram)

I am pretty happy to have taken this photo as I’d never really seen a ladybird hunting aphids before! I once heard that they were like the tigers of the insect world so I thought it’d be more... ferocious! But it sat there on the leaf, munching away at an aphid before lazily reaching up to pluck another off the plant and eat it. It sort of reminded me of someone sitting under a fruit tree in an orchard, lazing in between reaching up and plucking fruit to eat.

Those aphids really couldn’t be bothered running away. It was like they’d resigned themselves to being hunted that day or they were too busy daydreaming to notice. It was quite a sight.

If you don’t use pesticides in your garden, you too shall see the, uh... ferocious sight.
