Why do we look up to people that don’t really exist? Fictional characters? Why do we aspire to BE someone who never WAS in the first place? Because they represent our ideals. They are a literary or visual image of all that we want to become. Star Trek had that aim - to give us an ideal future to hope towards in the midst of a chaotic present. Admiral Janeway represents almost everything I want to be as a female leader. Flawed, devoted, vulnerable, and strong willed. Why do I aspire to be someone that never was? Maybe I’ll be the first to be it
