I love how blatantly the last shot is “are you thinking what I’m thinking?” and not “um, how dare, my latent feelings for you mean you’re not allowed to look at anyone else That Way”.
Yes! Sometimes it’s so great that they canonically have a telepathic link. Like in “Masterpiece society” where Deanna flirts some guy and decides to stay on the planet. Riker and her just exchange glances, Riker Gets It and beams away.
No posturing, no fighting, just “You’re sure? Right, see you later”.
I like it as a safety net too. Since they can discuss their relationships openly with each other, the other one can check in and make sure everything is ok when needed without it being interpreted as an act of control or jealousy.
