Okay I have too many intense feelings today about Star Trek and why I love it, so instead I’ll make a post about the fandom.

The Star Trek fandom is the most positive fandom I’ve ever been part of. I don’t know if it’s because all the discourse^tm and drama^tm was settled 50 years ago, or if it’s because of the peaceful nature at the heart of the franchise, or because all of us who enjoy it are full of love and wonder and curiosity, I don’t know.

When I look at this fandom, I believe in Gene Roddenberry’s future. A future of love and peace and acceptance, where we seek to learn and explore rather than to exploit and oppress. We have the power to bring about that future. The UFP might be science fiction, but kindness and equality for all of us on planet Earth- that doesn’t have to be. I hope we keep this dream for 50 more years, and another 50 years after that, for as long as we can, whether or not it comes true.

I don’t care if you’ve only seen the reboot movies, or only one series, or only a few episodes. If you like Star Trek, you’re one of us. I love you. All of you. Thank you so, so much.
