celestiaphia asked:

Thodorex here - who is your favorite character in ds9? I thought sendimg an ask would be easier than continuing our chain posts lol. Also what do you think of the religious aspect of ds9 with sisko and the prophets?

ladyvean answered:

Personally, I like the idea of a future without religion for humanity, so I could have lived without Sisko being the Emissary of the Prophets and all that jazz - particularly towards the end of the series, with one of the Prophets actually being his mother and his ascension to the Celestial Temple, etc.  Even though it wasn’t my cup of tea, I think they had handled it well until then.  But I don’t hate it.  It’s just meh.

Favorite character is a tricky question.  Personally, I relate most to Garak and Andy Robinson is a phenomenal actor.  I admire Jadzia for her intelligence, rationality, strength, and beauty.  Quark is easily the most dynamic, nuanced, and well-performed of the main cast.  Weyoun is just a delight every moment he’s on screen.  But if you combine all of those things… Well, I guess I would have to say Damar.  I don’t relate to him the way I relate to Garak, but I think everyone has struggled with something that they know is wrong without knowing how to tackle it (and I certainly share his addictive personality).  I think he is much more intelligent than fandom generally gives him credit for - poisoning the ketracel white was a stroke of genius and it was Damar who figured out how to take down the minefield.  He’s also very good at reading people; just look at how he figured out Odo and Kira’s feelings for each other before most other people did.  He’s strong, he has one of the most amazing redemption arcs in modern television history, and he has a beautiful duality within himself.  Add to that that Casey is one of the most incredible and subtle performers on the show, and I think we have a ringer.  He never makes a choice as an actor that makes me, the viewer, ask “Why did he do that?”  And that is high praise indeed.  DS9 had the best secondary cast of any Star Trek series, I think on that we can all agree.  Andy Robinson, Marc Alaimo, Jeffrey Combs, Casey Biggs, Max Grodenchik, Chase Masterson, Aron Eisenberg.  To me, they often outshone the main cast (with the exception of Armin) and that is really something.  But yeah, I guess I would have to say Damar is my favorite.  Tough call though!
