OK enjoy this quick doodle BECAUSE I just wanted to express this v.i.c. (very important headcanon):
After the events of Our Man Bashir, Garak gets to bedtime reading about the Cold War period on Earth, because he logically assumes that it’s one of Bashir’s passions. I mean, that’s literally what Julien said: he plays a spy during the Cold War, which he obviously loves, he barely leaves that holosuite. So Garak, meaning to be amenable and informed, and maybe get some attention, gets deep into Soviet history. And he LOVES it! And he can’t wait to talk to julian about it!! This shit is amazing!!!!! It is SO CARDASSIAN.
HOWEVER, as it turns out, julien knows absolutely nothing about soviet history. none. nil. nada. squat. he knows “james bond” cold war history. brezhnev? who the fuck is brezhnev?
garak is immensely disappointed. but he keeps reading about it anyway. once he’s properly proficient, he’ll schedule an extended lunch, and tell julian all about it. I mean, isn’t it wonderful? it might just be that there’s more to humanity than modern federation sensibilities after all
