Garak on Cardassia thought
I have read a lot of really excellent post-canon Cardassia stories, and a consistent theme in all the ones I’ve read is how completely happy Garak is to be home. Usually he misses Julian, but that’s all. And I entirely understand why that’s a theme, given how much he misses it in canon.
But my muse is a contrary beast, so I keep thinking having this thought: What if, after having been home awhile, he slowly starts to realize that there are things he misses about Deep Space Nine, too? Not just Julian, but things like having a range of food options: Human or Klingon or Bajoran or who knows what else. Things like the variety of the people watching, learning new things about all the many different species that passed through, hundreds of entertainment options… Cardassia is pretty xenophobic, I imagine it’s hard to get any of these things there.
He’d probably still like Cardassian things best, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t sorely miss the variety.
