You have no idea how actually afraid I am of this new bill that our President has proposed as a way to "prohibit the spread of LGBT+ ideology".
Not only because of how this will affect the lives of myself and my friends who identify as being a part of that community but the lives of kids who are now beginning to discover their sexuality and gender identity.
About 2/3 of LGBT+ youth in Poland has thought about suicide, and there have been documented cases of kids committing suicide either due to bullying (whether it be online or IRL) or lack of acceptance from their own family.
One of the biggest cases recently, was that of a 23-year-old Milo Mazurkiewicz, a transgender activist, who committed suicide by jumping into Wisła river, because she was fed up with how she was being treated in her immediate family. It happened last year.
And she isn't the only one.
Aside from LGBT+ community, this paper has tremendously harmful implications for all the young people who are beginning to enter puberty.
You see, the bill also proposes an all-out ban on providing sex ed in schools, and parents having a total control on what their child is going to learn or not. Which is only gonna make things worse considering that sex education in polish schools is at an all time low. This combined with the fact that abortion is also severly restricted (and even if it is technically legal in certain specific cases, certain hospitals and/or doctors might even refuse to carry out the procedure because it conflicts with their religious beliefs) it can lead to tragedies, which I won't discuss here because it is just too heartbreaking...
So if Andrzej Duda gets reelected and this paper gets signed, it will not "protect the children" as he claimed. Instead, it will actively harm and traumatize them in more than one way.
And at the end of the day, the president, the government and the party he represents (as well as those of the church that endorse this kind of hatred) will all have blood on their hands.
And I am not afraid to say it, because it is true.
