thinking about lgbt rep in discovery and how almost every explicitly lgbt character either dies or has/had a dead partner

soyousian

Jett Reno has a dead wife who we don’t see and who doesn’t get a name

Ellen Landry has a dead fiancée (canon in Star Trek Online) and then she gets killed herself

And of course everyone knows about Hugh Culber and Paul Stamets

I know why this happens but that doesn’t make me any less frustrated

It’s like I’ve said before: Hugh and Paul were shown to be two happy, together people on 1x04. After that it’s partial insanity due to mushrooms, death and a break up.

So that’s the representation of a gay couple. Season 1 episode 4. It bugs me like the whole “yeah you’ll get a non white female captain - sike!” bugs me. You can feel that they know about the idea of representation, enough to put out a bait, but when it comes down to it they won’t go through with it.
