The Trump administration had weighed in on the cases, arguing on behalf of a group of employers who had been brought to court for firing their gay or transgender employees. The Department of Justice had argued that the Civil Rights Act did not cover gay or transgender employees.
Always interesting to see POTUS fail to uphold the principle of equality under the law.
But here’s Biden’s reaction:
“Today, by affirming that sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination are prohibited under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Supreme Court has confirmed the simple but profoundly American idea that every human being should be treated with respect and dignity,” Biden said in a statement. “That everyone should be able to live openly, proudly, as their true selves without fear.”
