When I was a young child there was a statue of Lucy the Australopithecus at the St. Louis Zoo. It was very cheesy and probably not very scientifically accurate, but each time I saw it I was filled with a sense of reverence and would like. Kneel in front of the statue. I think I was imitating Mulan from the Disney movie at the shrine of her ancestors because that was the only other context I’d heard the term “ancestors” before and figured yeah, of course ancient hominids deserve our reverence.
