I finally got around to coloring these, which means I can finally create the full height chart! Yessss! excited~
I love interactions and moments that compare/contrast Garak and Dukat. Star Trek tends to have an issue where members of the same species come across as essentially interchangeable members of monocultures–they started getting better about that in DS9, I think intentionally. I enjoy that each one is presenting an image that is totally at odds with his real nature.
Dukat acts imperious and controlled but in reality makes most of his decisions spontaneously and emotionally, whereas Garak acts flippant and emotive but in conduct is often coldly pragmatic.
Going on a mission to murder your daughter to save face, but then hitting on a lady (who hates you), getting fucked up about a bracelet, hurting your butt, and then taking your bastard daughter home–consequences be damned–is completely Dukat.
Playfully “tagging along” on some sort of sentimental Federation quest, only to immediately opportunistically switch gears to genociding the Founders’ homeworld (as part of a well-reasoned if suicidal mission to save the Alpha Quadrant) is totally Garak.
I mean don’t get me wrong, Garak’s got serious issues, but if anything they tend to contribute to him working through them and becoming a better (and still effective) person which is pretty dang neat. He has a great character arc that I’ll probably babble about some other time but you can see why he ultimately comes out ahead. btw i love drawing his dewlap.
