THE STORY:
In the year 2215, a 127-year-old T’Pol’s shuttle gets caught in a certain energy ribbon. She enters the Nexus, meets and mind-melds with Guinan’s echo, and leaves in search of the real deal. She arrives on Deep Space 9 in 2380 and meets the real Guinan, who is running Quark’s Bar since Quark expanded into a franchise. She cryptically suggests T’Pol go back into Starfleet. Guinan has been on DS9 since the end of the Dominion War after sensing another significant alteration to the timeline: Jadzia Dax was supposed to have died in 2374 but is alive. Guinan approaches the station’s counselor Ezri Tigan, who confesses she has memories of being Dax despite never hosting a symbiont.
Meanwhile, Jadzia has accepted a posting to Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards to be closer to Worf. She spearheads development of the Tereshkova class, an intended successor to the Intrepid class: designed for science and exploration but capable of defending itself. Her presence greatly alters the outcome of the Romulan supernova crisis: she narrowly averts the synth attack on Mars and makes Ambassador Spock’s mission to save Romulus a success. Androids are heavily scrutinized but not outright banned. A new era of cooperation dawns between the Romulan Star Empire and United Federation of Planets; the Zhat Vash conspiracy is exposed much sooner, Dahj Asha isn’t killed, Seven of Nine never joins the Fenris Rangers, Raffi Musiker stays in Starfleet Intelligence and Admiral Saavik replaces the traitorous Commodore Oh as head of SI. As a gesture of good faith, the Romulans repatriate the alternate version of Tasha Yar captured on the U.S.S. Enterprise-C in 2344, who wasn’t executed and has been in cryogenic stasis for decades. Yar is accepted back into Starfleet but has trouble readjusting to her old life.
