being a startrek fan means acknowledging the hard truth that the reason there are so many excellent m/m ships is that these shows often don’t care to develop their female characters and instead focus on relationships between male characters
I’ve been in fandom since the 90s, and when people asked why everything was so gay in fanfic, I would just gesture in the general direction of mainstream media, like, maybe if there were as much energy put into making the female characters interesting, m/m ships wouldn’t dominate
