There are two things we need to focus on right now, and they are two distinct tasks:
1. Help the Senate strike down a confirmation of Trump’s Supreme Court nominee. Mitch McConnell has said he is going to put a vote on the floor to confirm Trump’s replacement. Yes, we know it’s the grandest hypocrisy. Move past that. The fact is, we need to peel off FOUR SENATE VOTES in order to strike down his nomination. He’s going to try to get this done before the election (or during a lame duck Congress). To get those four votes, we need to target the GOP Senators most likely to waver and pressure the hell out of them. Call their offices. Donate to their opponents. Make them terrified. They’re not just going to do the right thing—we need to bully them. The most likely candidates are Collins, Murkowski, Grassley and Romney. But they’re not the only ones who need to be pressured. Any GOP Senator who is vulnerable is a target. EVEN if Trump loses the election we could still be screwed cuz Mitch is going to try to make it happen before Trump leaves office. Consider giving to this fund that will split your donations between the opponents of vulnerable Republican Senators.
2. Vote Donald Trump out. (And turn the Senate and the House Blue.) There are a lot of young people on this site. And collectively, your votes will matter. Check your voter registration online right now. If you’re not registered, do it now. Convince five of your friends to vote. Talk to everyone you can. Volunteer your time phone banking or sending texts or registering others. Make a plan to vote NOW. If you can vote early, do it. If you’re in a swing state, take it so personally. Michigan went red in 2016 by 12,000 votes. THAT IS NOTHING. Your votes matter. Get out and do it. Because if we don’t, the next four years will be a thousand times worse than the last four.
This is hastily written, so I know I’ve forgotten things. I know this is not organized. I know there are a lot of other good resources and ideas out there. But I just urge you to act. And I understand if you’re a leftist and are disappointed with Biden. So am I. But there’s no other choice right now. Let’s get to work.
