A little cursed, but I can’t get this out of my head: why does the DS9 fandom sleep on Weyoun/Damar? I’m asking because if you look at the biggest ships in the fandom across various sites, it seems like usually fans and the actors ship the same things…? Like, Garashir has been shipped by the two characters’ actors all along, as has Quodo (effusively), and I’ve seen Kiradax being shipped by the actresses as well… and all three are popular pairings… but then, Jeffrey Combs and Casey Biggs have also been shipping their characters together intensely since they were on set and yet fans don’t seem to take note of it!

Here’s the actors explaining that they’ve always thought of the dynamic as a famous bickering married couple from pop culture:

They also acted out the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet while seeming to use their DS9 characters’ voices!!!

Now, I get that this ship isn’t supported by canon whatsoever, but like, let’s be real here. There were plenty of episodes in DS9, especially in the late seasons where Weyoun and Damar made their debut, that really go against fan-favorite ships (Garashir fans like myself still are devastated by how that ship ends up, after all). Usually, I see people ship things based more on potential that the writers didn’t explore. And Combs’s and Biggs’s favorite moments from playing Damar and Weyoun seem to have been the bickering between the two characters. The actors also have a dynamic that if translated to their characters, could easily inform a courtship (especially a Cardassian one), right? 

…For all I know, maybe everybody in this fandom learned about this long ago and simultaneously agreed to never explore it for whatever reason, but I couldn’t help but wonder lol

there is a small following of people in the fandom who ship it. there’s even some fanfiction for it. i think overall though the fandom is like “this shit is TOO cursed” despite casey and jeff being like “please… we want to be a popular ship too…” for the last 20 years.

It makes me pretty sad that Weyoun/Damar isn’t widely recognized because I wholeheartedly support it, they really work so well together in that respect that I’m sad it’s not more widely appreciated

I’m not a big shipper but they DO argue a lot.. and we all know what that means..
