And here’s why you fucking wait for five minutes before you issue your cool political hot takes. Calling myself out here, also.
On the left, we have a much smaller (15,590 person) exit-day poll. Remember, exit day voters were disproportionately Republican voters, as Democrats voted earlier and more by mail. On the right, we have the Associated Press election survey (note: NOT a poll), which was larger (110,485 persons) and covered people who also voted by mail or by provisional ballots etc.
This is why the Associated Press (AP VOTECAST), traditionally the gold standard for calling states, was able to call Arizona more quickly. Fox did the same based on the Associated Press’ info, which they pay to access. Other cable news channels did not, as they had the inferior same-day polling info; this is why they were much more cautious in their projections and calls, including bizarre unwillingness to call Pennsylvania due to the completely insane position that the provisional ballots might be overwhelmingly Republican (they’ve gone about 75+% for Biden).
Anyway, as you can see, white women with college degrees did not go for Trump. They went for Biden, overwhelmingly. But they, you know. Voted early. The Trump wave was in the proportion of the electorate which was “white, no college”–this was where the red wave turnout was. Yes, there’s a lot of talk of lost Latino support–but actually, Biden still won Latinos by a huge margin, and most of the counties where he appeared to lose share, he kept the Democratic Latino voters who had voted for Clinton, but additional voters came out to vote Republican.
But that hasn’t stopped people from assuming that white women with college degrees swung for Trump, which… mathematically, there’s no way to square the results on the left with a winning map of any kind. It’s okay, you can say women hated Trump. We did.
Anyway, reblog to counter misogynistic press that was issued based on bad data to serve the interests of misogynistic public messaging.
