humanhound asked:
do you have any opinions on not vaccinating (indoor) cats? the shelter I adopted my boy from was into homeopatic treatments and they didn't vaccinate their animals because of "risk of cancer", but i don't know how valid this concern is. (sorry if you have already answered this, i just wanted to hear multiple people on the subject!)

Vaccinate your cats! Yes, cat immune systems are weird and dumb and sometimes very very rarely will make cancer in response to inflammation but any sort of injection for them can do that. To even further decrease the risk, use non-adjuvented vaccines, which would be primarily a rabies vaccine that is only good for one year each time, instead of ever being good for 3 years.
Panleuk/Feline Distemper is a million times more common than a vaccine associated fibrosarcoma and it can live in the dirt for several years so all you’d need to do is walk over the wrong patch of dirt and you could track it home for your cat to come in contact with.
Honestly, how DARE that ‘shelter’ make a decision that directly puts ALL of their animals in significant harms way.
If you have questions about your animal’s health, talk to your vet.
