Leeta and Rom probably feels like such a good couple because there’s no plot induced drama involving their relationship. They are a B plot couple. The only thing was that one time Rom got it in his head she should sign a Ferengi prenup. She wasn’t having it and he realized he made a big mistake and then they lived happily ever after.
It never feels forced, because you get plenty of time to see how Rom and Leeta love each other and how that changes them. The way that Rom embraced Leeta’s traditions? The way Leeta is there for Nog in “It’s only a paper moon”? The way Rom evolved from “My son shouldn’t be taught by a woman” in season 1 to giving up his profits so they could be equal in the marriage? That’s some prime character development for a side character, I tell you.
