You never stop accumulating niche interests (he said as he leaves his fortieth year), as a matter of fact it’s most common for your *old* niche interests to resurface and combine with your *new* niche interests and possibly *CARVE OUT A NEW NICHE* because the combo doesn’t fit in the others anymore.

Dear confused teenagers of fandom:

I'm about ready to sit you all down and tell a tale of how fascinations with fictional worlds has shaped human imaginations since the dawn of time, which has led to, uhhh, all fiction ever. Like... I started writing characters having sex when I hadn't had sex, at age eighteen. Two years later, I had sex, and suddenly realized "wait, so that's how it's supposed to go, I should put this information into my Knowledge Bank." And I've been updating it for, get this, twenty years.

Growing up often means doing the exact same fandom stuff, just now you're drinking more wine and applying more arthritis cream. Oh, and you know more about How Stuff Actually Works. Congratulations, you are allowed to have both the same interests and new interests at the same time.

Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to lie down in my blanket fort under my computer desk and wonder when fandom gatekeeping got even more bizarre.

I'm sorry but have you READ smut written by teenagers? It's garbage. Good smut comes from people who either have genuine experience or have learned how to do proper research. I guarantee, all the best smut you've ever read was written by people over the age of 25. You want good fic, you need to let people who's backs creak write it
