Considering how shocked some of the insurrectionist nazis were that there were being shot at by the police at one point and arrested, i think you are right about your white male assessment. And given how many of the 'veteran' gop congressmen behaved during the assault vs. the dem candidates they would have been beaten down.

I strongly believe the GOP is full of overgrown, highly entitled, man (and woman) children who’ve never been told the word “no.” Like, Josh Hawley is awful and evil and complicit if not actively responsible for the horror of Wednesday but he’s also just a smarmy little shit that would be shoved in the congressional equivalent of a locker if Congress was middle school. And, I believe Lindsey Graham when he said that Ted Cruz could be murdered on the floor of the Senate and everybody would just turn a blind eye to it. That’s sort of why I have a tiny bit of hope that even if Cruz doesn’t resign, he might get expelled from the Senate because you need 2/3 votes and that’s 17 GOP senators but they’ll most likely disappoint me.

The more I read about the way different congresspeople reacted to the carnage, the angrier I get like there is no comparison between Kevin McCarthy going “we support their right to protest the election” and Josh Hawley saluting the fascists people compared to people like Andy Kim, a Korean-American Democrat from New Jersey, cleaning up the wreckage after the terrorists left or Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado and army veteran, holding Rep. Susan Wild’s hand on the ground and staying behind until everybody else had gotten out, or Jamie Raskin, who lost his son less than a week ago and feared for his daughter’s life and still stayed the whole night to do his part to ensure our democracy stays sound, and of course, Nancy Pelosi staying up and active for over 48 hours straight, in her high heels and perfect mask, trying to make things okay because nobody else has the ability to.

And that doesn’t even get into the sheer ignominy that is Black cleaners having to clean up after white rioters defecating and urinating all over the capital. They had to watch white terrorists defile the house their enslaved ancestors built without pay while praying for their own safety… and then go out and clean it up while the police who are at least partially responsible for the carnage that occurred just watched them do it without lifting a finger to help. Like that’s absolutely unforgivable on the part of our country and all of them, and all of us citizens for that matter, deserve so much better.
