Pledge Day is an old Hebitian winter holiday that
celebrates the light, but it was taken and reworked by Cardassians to
be about family and how family and the State are very much alike and
how you owe them your allegiance. A lot of Hebitian traditions were carried over though. So kind of renewing your ‘pledge’ to Family and Duty and that nature of things.
Tova dumplings are the traditional food for the holiday. They’re steamed dumplings filled with herbed and roasted fowl. It’s traditional to spend the holiday with your family and have a nice meal. Centerpieces for the table are often made of winter flowers by the family (it’s done together often, children help, etc). Storytelling is probably common around the table.
A thing from my own head that I think could be involved is lighting of some candles, maybe candles that have certain meanings, since the holiday was based around the old Hebitian holiday that celebrates light. Like maybe the big candle in the middle represents the Union (the State) and you put smaller candles encircling it, one to represent each of your immediate family members, and each family member (if they are old enough and able) light one of the candles. Then the oldest member of the family will light the center candle because elders are respected so… they get the honor of lighting the Union candle. That’s all I’ve got for now.
Aww, I wrote some fanfic fleshing out Pledge Day, but I didn’t think anyone would be interested!
