I can see the appeal. He’s far more likely to actually feel and or process his emotions (or at least drink till he doesn’t have to deal with them/process them) than say…Dukat who I think if he even hints at ‘feeling’ something it set him off into a whole episode of “I’m not crying! YOU ARE!” and horrible spiral. Would have been great in his breakdown/change over into the anti-Christ had been given more development.
Damar strikes me as a “I’m….feeling feels and these feels are having me think thoughts that are confusing and I express that confusion by anger. So I drink till I don’t feel them any more. And maybe I cry when no one is around but I deny it!” kinda guy but you kinda see he starts getting to the point and beyond where it’s no longer working and he snaps and stops drinking.
This last comment is basically my exact opinion of Damar.
