@conceptadecency I actually don’t know if she and Garak have ever met! She moves to DS9 after the show, a bit after he’d already left for Cardassia. I also think it’s fun to explore the universe outside of the show’s main bubble and get an outsider’s perspective– like, these canon characters we know and love and whose personal lives we’re deeply invested in are, to the average person, just some weirdos that show up on the news (if even that).

@kaelio had the idea that Garak helped Ghezal apply for her spot on DS9 out of Cardassian solidarity though (gotta keep that representation on the station going now that he’s left), and I really like that?? My take would be that he did so anonymously, and if she found out it was the Elim Garak (or he visited her shop in person) she’d get really flustered.

She’d also think that he was shorter in real life than she expected! But lots of people are short compared to her.

Brilliant. I agree, I would watch a show that was just about the shopkeepers on DS9, either during the show or post-canon. The command staff could occasionally show up and be referred to, but it would mostly be shopkeeper problems. Some episodes, like Rom forms a Union, would be pretty much the same, though.

I love that Ghezal’s so tall. And I think Garak is the sort of person who people often think is shorter that they thought he would be (even though Garak’s not actually that short).
