I don't remember the fic right off the top of my head but it was one of the best characterizations of Mila, absolutely top notch, like Mila didn't want a child but got pregnant as a way to secure a houshold and a future, even if it was one spent hiding in plain sight, because she was lowerclass and this was survival. She did parent Garak with the gardener (who seemed to really care for him) but she would do things to groom him for whatever Tain eventually would want him for, like make a child on the play ground cry in 10 words or less. She felt possessive of him because she was a mistress past her prime and this was her meal ticket but she was abusive and enabled Tain's abuse. I'm gonna have to find it cause it really did just hit all the right grooves.

I mean that’s ok, and big kudos to the writer for the characterization but one of my biggest bugbears is where the hell did this “class system” thing come from for Cardassians? It sure as hell isn’t alpha canon. It actually doesn’t make any sense at all in the context of what we see in alpha canon (or what alpha canon was inspired by). It’s beta canon, which outside of ASIT as a letter from a liar, I don’t ascribe to even remotely. Anyone else is free to, but flatly, I don’t.
