it’s headcanon o’clock and I have a proposal:
Cardassians have non-retractable claws that are relatively stubby and blunt, but can be sharpened if they want (Dukat sharpens his; Garak, who doesn’t, thinks it makes Dukat look like even more of an edgelord).
Ferengi have retractable, razor-sharp claws that they maintain with regular sharpening, like their teeth. The blue color Quark has on his isn’t nail polish— it’s little rubber claw caps, like people put on cats so they don’t scratch the furniture. He wears them so that he doesn’t scratch up the glassware at the bar (among other things), but they’re also a fun fashion statement.
