The universal translator has finally deciphered the incomprehensible language of the Star Trek Discovery haters

No, most of this is just the poster of this virtue signalling in itself. Those are legitimate issues. The Klingons aren’t Orcs so whatever they did to them is so far beyond the original Star Trek theme, everybody is aware of how weird it is. The diversity is pretty forced at times and “population demographics” is about the dumbest counter argument you could find for this. But since it’s Star Trek, the diversity issue doesn’t really come up that strong, it is watchable in this context. The input on gay characters and this ridiculous “they/them” situation is virtue signalling once again. This is merely the usual way of presenting mental illness as something noble and normal, which it isn’t. I wouldn’t even mind if they brought up the topic itself and discussed it from various angles, but the way it is treated constantly makes it obvious that people have no idea about the pathology itself and just treat it like a somehow better way of being, thus feeling themselves oh so noble and righteous, the usual suspects. Star Trek is set so far in the future that I wonder if people really have enough imagination for the WARP engine and mushroom technology but cannot imagine that emotionally and sociologically we would some day evolve past the “oh we validate and push everything, no matter the consequences”. This is just weird and people grow tired of it, rightfully. We should be able to discuss these things and find something that actually works.

I do want to clarify that some of this is tongue in cheek, if you have a legitimate criticism of the show that’s completely valid. I personally am not fond of how the first 2 seasons’ storylines were handled and feel the show didn’t really come into its own until S3 (I stuck around for Anson Mount’s cheekbones lol.) This post was mainly about people whose “criticisms” of the show consist primarily of their own raging bigotry, and this person’s bizarre transphobic rant is a prime example of who I mean
