This is a statement I wholeheartedly agree with. Last year I made a post about this and a few people went “nyehhhhh, we’re not allowed to dislike Star Trek Discovery without being called racist!” To which I say: No, you are allowed to dislike Discovery (one of my mutuals happens to dislike it and I respect their opinion); you’re getting called racist because your reasons for disliking Discovery are racist. I made that post because my experience on most social media went something like this:
some rando: myeh, I hate Michael Burnham!
me: oh, how come? I like Michael, I think Martin-Green’s acting is really good but was it really necessary for her to be related to Spock when she could stand on her own merits—?
rando: because RACISM RACISM RACISM (misogynoir) RAAACISM
