A potential genocide - and at the very least, horrible violations of human rights - is being perpetuated against the Turkic Muslim minorities (primarily Uyghurs, but also including Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and other minorities) in China.
In addition to these atrocities, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has also recently engaged in political repression of Hong Kong, bringing it into line with the political repression and lack of freedom of speech in the rest of China.
It might seem like there is nothing people outside of China (and even inside of it really, considering the CCP regularly engages in political repression even of the Han majority) can do to help.
But, the CCP does listen to economics - and those of us in the US and Europe are the primary market for goods made in China.
I would encourage all of y’all to boycott Chinese made goods, in protest against the actions of the CCP in Xinjiang/East Turkestan.
Also, y’all should know that Hollywood isn’t speaking out against this bc they’re a bunch of cowards who want the money to be made from selling movies in China. And the CCP won’t let movies be shown in China if the company, director, or actors making them have ever said anything bad about the Party or its policies.
So if someone in Hollywood does have the courage to speak out, support them. And call out the people and companies in Hollywood who are ignoring China’s violation of human rights in Xinjiang/East Turkestan, or making movies (ahem, Mulan) with the support of the people helping run concentration camps.
