A Brief Rant
I just wanna punch every idiot on twitter being snide about the heat wave hitting the Pacific NW saying crap like, "It's called summer, duh". Like, okay, congratulations, you live in Texas/Arizona/Wherever. Do you have air conditioning? Do you have easy access to air conditioning? Is your house built for hot temperatures? Has your body acclimated to such a climate?
Because guess what, fucknuts, we have none of those things. Very few homes on this side of the Cascade Mountains have air conditioning. Because we never used to need it. It never got to triple digits in the first 25 years of my life here, and it hasn't hit triple digits when I returned here from California 8 years later - until now. Now we're getting slammed with multiple days of 105+ temperature, and it's fucking batshit. No, it is NOT normal. It's June. It should still be raining here. It should be in the 70's. It was a stunningly hot day if it even hit the high 80's back when I was a kid - hence, why no AC. We could ride out a few days near the 90's every year with no AC. But this? This is intolerable. It's not a dry heat, either. We're not a desert (yet). We are a temperate rainforest. It's miserable.
So yeah, I get how to those of you who deal with these temps every year a few days of triple-degree weather it seems like we're overreacting. But then I see how many of these jackasses are then shocked to learn we don't have AC. Apparently many of y'all take it for granted, that it's as much of a household staple as a refrigerator or furnace. Well for us, it was considered a luxury - a particularly excessive and unnecessary one. So maybe keep your snide mouth shut because you don't know what you're talking about. Your experience is not universal. I can't believe I have to say this.
When are we gonna stop being jerks to each other when bad climate things happen? Whether that's the cold snap that killed Texans or this heat wave happening here, surely at this point we can all understand that ALL of us are gonna be thrust into sudden extreme situations that we are NOT built for, on an infrastructure or personal level? And don't get me started on people laughing at the West Coast burning. None of us are gonna make it out of this climate catastrophe alive (unless you're Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk and the like) unless we start working together to force the powers that be to make the changes necessary to hopefully keep most of us from dying. Go ahead and laugh at California for burning. Have fun with that, till suddenly you're freezing and your power goes down. UGH. Stop being shitty to each other over freaking weather!!!!
