Deep Dish Nine Ben Sisko drinks out of this. Jake gave it to him, obvs. It stays in the kitchen where he can keep his eye on it. Besides the baseball by the cash register, it’s his most prized possession. If it isn’t where it should be, heads roll.
One time Julian, turning with a trayful of plates, accidentally elbowed it off the counter. It hit the floor. It somehow didn’t break. Didn’t matter; Julian was already hiding in the bathroom and Jadzia had to talk him out again.
When he crept back into the kitchen, Ben had already mopped the floor and refilled the mug with fresh raktajino. He smiled a little. He never said anything.
But sometimes he looks at Julian, and Julian swallows hard, and that day Julian handles the dishes really carefully.
