I don't think it's healthy, this adult obsession with asking young kids what they want to be when they grow up
like, these kids are already being raised in a capitalist freakshow of a society wherein a person's worth as a human being is heavily determined by income and profession. can we at least give them a childhood without constant reminders that that shitty standard will apply to them too?
a child's personality is not defined by what career they may or may not pursue 20 years from now, so stop using "What do you want to be when you grow up?" as a defining question.
#an eight year old shouldn't be worrying about whether they're smart enough to be a doctor #an 8 year old should be worrying about show and tell. #that is the heaviest and most serious concern an 8 year old should be dealing with
#'well what else am i supposed to ask them' they are KIDS they have like a MILLION hobbies ask about that. children are so gosh darn INTERESTED in the world ask them about their INTERESTS, not about how they plan to translate those interests into profit!!! that just sucks the joy right out life.
