It’s crazy to me that Cardassians are all about family and they make it a point to bring it up every couple episodes. Like Cardassians value family above all else (except maybe the state) and if you’re a Cardassian with no family then you’re no Cardassian at all.
Yet we’ve seen multiple Cardassians (Dukat and Damar) have affairs. Dukat even ends up losing his wife and seven kids because he brings back Ziyal, revealing he had an affair and child. Garak has a moment where he calls Dukat out on trying to impress Kira, and points out he’s a married man. I wonder what happens to the family of a Cardassian who cheats, like did people feel bad about Dukats wife and kids and help them out or do they look at them like they’re disgraceful? Are they treated just as badly as Dukat?
Garak taunting Dukat for being a married man is even more funny in the context of A Stitch in Time because Garak had relations with a married woman that led to him being exiled (according to him at least) and Dukat probably knows about it because Cardassians do love gossip
I bet Dukat’s family is disgraced because Cardassians are just dramatic like that.
I always assumed it was more because Ziyal was half-Bajoran and not because she was the product of extra marital sex.
