The zoo I visit seems to attract local wildlife and mostly let's them wander around at leisure. Does that ever cause problems with the resident animals?
It can.
The only real problem I have encountered in terms of “locals” is them stealing food.
For example, there’s a red-tailed hawk at my current place who has learned which exhibits get meat/rodents and who are small enough that she can safely swoop down and take it.
So, for our Kenya bat-earred foxes, for example, I feed one inside and for the other I stand in the exhibit while he eats because she won’t come down while I’m there. Easy solution that doesn’t harm anyone. :)
I’m curious, Anon - what kind of animals are wandering your local zoo? Is it peafowl?
