Re: ask a zookeeper, there is one anti-zoo argument I'm not sure how to respond to. It basically says that animals are defined not just by their physical species, but also by their role in the ecosystem. For example "can you really say a wolf is a wolf if she's not hunting elk?" I suppose that's a philosophical/spiritual argument rather than a scientific one but I was curious if you have any thoughts on it. The low-hanging fruit like "animal prisons!!!" is relatively easy to debunk but this one's got me stumped.

I would just say that we do everything (within reason) that we can to stimulate and maintain natural behaviors.
