kind of hate sometimes how people will take their own personal headcanons or popular ones or what-have you so seriously not that im a fun hater or whatever but i mean like in serious contexts like ill be talking about how jadzia dax was genuinely the first ever and i think only canonically on screen lgbt main character in star trek before disco and everything (im sorry if im forgetting someone) and how incredibly important that makes her as a character and then someone else will come out with like but oh what about the subtext between x and y and x character was confirmed whatever by the actor in panels and z was sooo whatever in that one episode and like yeah man you know i love that shit honest to god and i knooow garak gay and julian trans realness and all that its real 2 me but you can not compare that to the fucking female character who kissed another woman on screen in the 90s where they risked it all putting that episode out and it is monumentally important to lgbt history in television idk im taking this more seriously than it really is because i know people say these things in good fun but some people really think that garak and bashir did more for lgbt shit in star trek than jadzia dax or later even hugh and stamets or adira/gray and you are just like wrong

I’m saying this with peace and love, please stop confusing your headcanons with objective reality

Stuff like this is where we get all the other preachy nonsense like telling people it’s problematic to describe Data as “childlike” because he’s “coded” as autistic or jokingly calling Benjamin Sisko “Space Jesus” is “erasure” or it’s somehow antisemitism to draw Bajorans with furry ears and guinea pig noses. Some of y'all need to actually learn what these words mean and stop treating the show inside your head the same as the show actually onscreen and realize not everybody has the same interpretation of the material as you and that doesn’t make them a bigot or whatever.
