The moral of the story?  If you’re a mutt, don’t let yourself believe for even a moment that they will choose you over the purebred dog. They won’t, and to think anything else is a self-indulgent fantasy that is only going to hurt you in the end.  Don’t let them pet you if it’s going to lead to you have an emotional connection to them.  Feelings are for the weak.  Bark and growl and bare your teeth.

It is better to be feared than to be loved.
