Concept: Kira Nerys, CO of DS9, and Lt. Mekor Dukat, science officer. 

So there was Dukat, droning on about how his youngest would look to the Federation and despise them (the Maquis were coming to destroy his home – the drama). But the truth of the matter is, after the Dominion war and the much-needed aid from the Federation, Dukat’s boy makes the choice of enrolling into Starfleet. And is then magically posted to DS9. Kira thinks she’ll have a problem with him, but she’ll end up demanding the adoption papers from the Cardassian government after a month.

I mean, they’d bond over so much. 

“Your father was an arse, no offence.” “Colonel, you’re preaching to the choir.” 

“She was brilliant. She could bring anything to life beneath her hand.” “Stars… Who was this?” “That, I believe… was Tora, her mother… I never met her, but Ziyal could bring her back to life with only a few paintbrushes and a canvas.” “She was quite beautiful. Father always did have an eye for beautiful things.” 

And she’d end up teaching him baseball, and he’d probably get roped into everything else happening on the station as well; Julian’s holosuite programs, Molly’s botany projects, Quark and Nog’s weekly game of Tongo “Ah! Another Dukat. My god, he had them coming out of his ears, didn’t he?” 

Also, Kira is a delight to draw, and Cardassian necks are a laugh.

  • How I feel about this character:  I have mixed feelings about Kira.  I think she is kind of hit or miss.  I like that we have a character that is a woman and she is allowed to be angry, but I think they went to the rage well a little too often with her.  I also think that Nana, while a lovely person and a stunning beauty, has a slight tendency to over-act (though to be fair, when she was good, she was VERY good).
  • Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: I kinda, sorta shipped her with Odo when I first started watching the show, but after a couple of episodes, I realized how they didn’t really work together as a romantic relationship.  So, no one, I guess.
  • My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character:  I always enjoyed her chats with Jadzia and her big-sister/mentor thing with Ziyal.  Also, I thought her willingness to move beyond her hatred of Cardassians in order to work with Damar (and ultimately having a grudging respect for him) was very important to her development and lead to some really poignant moments between them.
  • My unpopular opinion about this character: Realistically, I don’t think she could have beaten Damar’s ass and him not get even a single shot in.  That was just ridiculous and one of those times that the writing is foresaken in order for the protagonist to win.  DS9 had some of the best and the worst storytelling in Star Trek, honestly, and that was not great.
  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:  Hmm.  I think her interactions with the O’Brien family were infinitely more interesting than her forced relationship with Shakaar, and I would have liked to have seen more of the former and less (or none) of the latter.
  • Favorite friendship for this character:  Odo?  They were good sounding boards for each other and both helped the other grow; plus neither of them were Starfleet, so they had outside perspectives on a lot of issues.
  • My crossover ship:  I really don’t have one.
